Special Traffic Alert – April 22

On Wednesday, April 22, IDOT will be closing Bristol, Churchill and Eaton Streets for pavement installation.  Dickens Street will remain open and left turns will be permitted in and out of the neighborhood area.  This new traffic configuration is expected to be in place for approximately three weeks.

Willow Road Work Plan

April 20 – May 4, 2015

Waukegan to Sunset Ridge Road.   The center median work, left turn lanes, and electrical, and landscaping work are all underway in this area.

Sunset Ridge to Wagner.   The roadway pavement is now complete in this section and work will continue on the curb and gutter, landscape restoration, and sidewalks.

Wagner to Bosworth.  Earthwork and subgrade operations will take place as weather permits.  The first pavement installation is expected to start the week of April 27^th.  During these operations, access to Churchill, Dickens Eaton and Bristol may be restricted, but one road with left turn out access will, remain open for local traffic at all times.

River Bridge.  The parapet wall, pilasters and railing installation work will all continue. 

Bridge to Happ.  The water main work will take place on Alice Place followed by the final storm sewer and water main connections.  When this work is completed, the contractor will start the earthwork and subgrade operations.

Special Traffic Alert – April 10 - Northfield/Old Willow Road

IDOT is instituting a new traffic configuration today which further impacts the Northfield Road intersection.  The north lanes of Northfield/Old Willow Road will remain open but the left hand turn lane from Willow Road onto Old Willow/Northfield will be under construction.  Motorists can still make left turns, but will have to do so from the through lane.  The traffic signal timing is being adjusted to help minimize the impacts and local traffic is urged to use Wagner Road as an alternative.   The left turn limitations are anticipated to be in effect for one week.

Willow Road Detours and Work Plan

April 1 – April 18, 2015

Willow Road Traffic Alert

The contractor is in the process of making a series of utility connections from the south side of the street to the mainline storm sewer, under the west bound pavement, just east of Northfield Road.  These construction operations require the removal of pavement.  The work is expected to take place between the hours of 7 a.m. and 4 p.m. and at times the roadway will be reduced to one lane.  Construction flaggers will be in place to ensure the safe movement of traffic. Major delays are anticipated. 

These special operations are anticipated to be completed by Wednesday, March 18, 2015.      

Detour Alert – Northfield Road

On Monday, March 23, 2015 IDOT plans to close the southern intersection of Willow Road and Northfield Road to install the utilities and final pavement in this area.  The intersection is anticipated to be closed for approximelty five weeks.   Local traffic will be detoured east to Happ Road.

·         provide special Police patrols on local streets to reduce speeding and cut through traffic; and,

Willow Road Winter Construction Plan

January, February, March - 2015

Over the next few months, the Willow Road construction project will be operating under a winter plan.  On the days where the weather permits, the contractor will be working along the corridor on the final utility installations and bridge improvements.   No detours or lane interruptions are currently planned.

Full construction operations are anticipated to begin in early April and IDOT expects the project to be completed by the end of June 2015.

Willow Road Detours and Work Plan

December 22 – January 2, 2015

• Chapel Hill to the Wagner.  The final water main work is underway and will be followed by the installation of the subgrade and pavement.

• River Bridge.  The sleeper slab and parapet wall are scheduled to be poured the week of December 22.

December 5 – December 19, 2014

• Sunset Ridge Road Intersection.    The intersection remains open to north and south bound traffic but, the no left turn restrictions continue.  The intersection is anticipated to be fully re-opened the week of December 15.
• Chapel Hill to the River.  The final water, sanitary, and storm sewer installations are all underway and this work will continue over the next two weeks.  Local streets may be impacted periodically for the utility connections within the intersections.
• River Bridge.  The bridge paving work is scheduled to start the week of December 8.  Once the deck is poured the contractor will start on the parapet wall.
• Bridge to Edens.  Nicor is still working on this area to remove their gas main that is in conflict with other utilities.  As soon as their work is complete and the contractor can access the area they will begin the water and sewer installations.
• Edens Bridge to Linder.  The bridge parapet wall and the sidewalk east of the Edens will be poured as weather permits.

Construction Alert – Winnetka Avenue

Later this week, the Cook County Department of Transporation and Highways will begin construction work on Winnetka Avenue between Happ and the Edens Expressway.  Winnetka Avenue will remain open to east and west bound traffic at all times.  Detours will be put in place for the Frontage Road intersections in two phases:

Willow Road Detours and Work Plan

November 15 – November 28, 2014

Detours.  The southern intersection of Willow Road and Wagner Road is closed to install the utility and roadway improvements.  The Wagner Road intersection is expected to be closed for three weeks and is tentatively set to re-open mid-December. Regional traffic will be detoured west to Waukegan Road.  Click here to see the detour route.

Waukegan Road.  The work along Waukegan is substantially complete and all of the north south lanes have re-opened.  Only one left hand turn lane will be in place, until the pavement work on Willow is complete.

Sunset Ridge Road Intersection.    The intersection remains open to north and south bound traffic, but there are no left turns permitted onto Willow Road from Sunset Ridge or onto Sunset Ridge from Willow.  These left hand turn restrictions are anticipated to remain in place through the end of November.  Over the next two weeks, the contractor will be working on the western half of the intersection.

Bracken to Chapel Hill.   Paving is complete.  The contractor will be installing curb and gutter, sidewalks, and driveway aprons over the next two weeks.

 Chapel Hill to the River.  The water, sanitary, and storm sewer installation, and earthwork are all underway.  As the work progresses, the local streets on the south side of the corridor will be impacted, for short periods, to install the utilities and construct the intersections.

 River Bridge.  The contractor plans to finish constructing the southern bridge sub deck and pour the bridge deck before Thanksgiving.

River Bridge to Edens.  Nicor’ s gas main cut-over has been completed and after they remove all of their equipment and materials from the area, the contractor will be able to access the area to begin work on the water and sewer utilities.

Edens Bridge to Linder.  The new sidewalk on the bridge deck should be poured within the next week and parapet wall reconstruction will proceed after the sidewalk is poured. This area remains closed.  The east bound exit ramp has been fully reopened and signage is scheduled to be installed over the next week.

October 31 – November 14, 2014

• Detours.  The week, the Eden’s Ramp, Waukegan Road lanes, and Walnut Street all reopened!  No detours are currently in place.
   
• Sunset Ridge Road Intersection.    The intersection remains open to north and south bound traffic, but there are no left turns permitted onto Willow Road from Sunset Ridge or onto Sunset Ridge from Willow.  These left hand turn restrictions are anticipated to remain in place through the end of November.  Over the next two weeks, the contractor will be finishing up the underground utility work and pavement installation on the eastern half of the intersection.  On November 10^th, they anticipate moving traffic over and starting on the western half of the intersection.
   
• Waukegan Road.  The work along Waukegan is substantially complete and all of the north south lanes have re-opened.  Only one left hand turn lane will be in place, until the pavement work on Willow is complete.
   
• Bracken to Chapel Hill.   The final earthwork and subgrade installation is underway and the paving is anticipated to take place the week of November 3^rd.
   
• Chapel Hill to the River.  The water, sanitary, and storm sewer installation, and earthwork are all underway.  As the work progresses, the local streets on the south side of the corridor will be impacted, for short periods, to install the utilities and construct the intersections.
   
• River Bridge.  The contractor plans to install the remaining pilings on the west side of the bridge the week of November 3^rd.  This will only be a one day operation but increased noise and vibrations are anticipated while the work is underway.  Once the pilings are in place, they will form and pour the west side abutment.
   
• River Bridge to Edens.   NICOR will be completing their gas main cut over.  Once that work is completed, the contractor will be able to access the area to begin work on the water and sewer utilities.
   
• Edens Bridge to Linder.  The sidewalk and parapet wall reconstruction is underway.  The previously closed, east bound exit ramp has been fully reopened.

Special Traffic Alert – Sunset Ridge Road

IDOT instituted a new traffic configuration which impacts the Sunset Ridge Road intersection.  The north and south bound lanes of Sunset Ridge Road will remain open but no left turns will be permitted to Willow Road from Sunset Ridge or from Willow Road to Sunset Ridge.  The left turn restrictions are anticipated to be in effect until the end of November.

In the downtown area, Happ Road is now reopened and Walnut Avenue has been closed.

Willow Road Detours and Work Plan

October 17-31, 2014

• Edens Detour.  On Monday, October 20, 2014 IDOT plans to close the outbound (from Chicago), eastbound, Edens Expressway Ramp at Willow.  Traffic will be able to exit ahead of the closure at Lake Street or will be detoured north to Dundee.  The closure is anticipated to be in effect for 10 days.
• Happ Road Detour.  Due to weather delays, the Happ Road detour will remain in effect until Tuesday, October 21.   The final pavement, curbs and sidewalk will be installed over the next few days.  Local traffic is being detoured east to Northfield Road.
• Sunset Ridge Road Intersection.  On Tuesday, October 21^st the contractor will start work on the northern leg of this intersection, near Sunset Ridge School.  The intersection will remain open to north and south bound traffic, but left hand turns onto Willow Road will be prohibited.  These traffic movement limitations are anticipated to remain in place through the end of November.
• Waukegan Road.  This area is in the final stage of work.  The contractor will be finishing the final topsoil and sodding operations followed by a restriping of lanes.  The north and south lanes are anticipated to be reopened by the end of October.
• Chapel Hill to the River.  The water, sanitary, and storm sewer installation, and earthwork are all underway.  As the work progresses, the local streets on the south side of the corridor will have to be closed for short periods to install the utilities and construct the intersections.  Special detour alerts will be posted one week prior to any of these closures taking place.
• Bridge to the Edens.  The bridge demolition, river excavation, and utility installations are all underway.   The contractor plans to install the remaining pilings on the west side of the bridge the week of October 20.  Increased noise and vibrations are anticipated while these operations are underway.

Detour Alert – Edens Ramp

On Monday, October 20, 2014 IDOT plans to close the outbound, eastbound, Edens Expressway Ramp at Willow. Traffic will be able to exit at Lake Street or will be detoured north to Dundee. The closure is anticipated to be in effect for 10 days.

Pilings Notice

October 9, 2014

Next week, the contractor plans to install the pilings on the south side of the bridge.  The operation will start on the east side and then move to the west.  The work is expected take two days and while it is underway, additional noise and vibrations are anticipated.    

 

The traffic staging for this work is already in place and no new delays are anticipated.

October 3-17, 2014

• Waukegan Road.  This area is in the final stage of work.  The contractor will be finishing the median, electrical, curb and gutter, topsoil and sodding operations.  All lanes on are anticipated to be reopened in October.
• Chapel Hill to the River.  The water, sanitary, and storm sewer installation, and earthwork are all underway.  As the work progresses, the local streets on the south side of the corridor will have to be closed for short periods to install the utilities and construct the intersections.  Special detour alerts will be posted one week prior to any of these closures taking place.
• Bridge to the Edens.  The bridge demolition, river excavation, and utility installations are all underway.   The contractor plans to start the pile driving on the new bridge structure the week of October 6^th.  Increased noise and vibrations are anticipated while these operations are underway.
• Edens.  The entry and exit ramps for the Edens have been completed and are now reopened.  Over the next two weeks, the contractor will start work on the bridge, over the expressway, including the parapet wall, sidewalk and deck.

On Monday, September 29, 2014 IDOT plans to close the southern intersection of Willow Road and Happ Road to install the utility and roadway improvements.  This closer will only take place once the Northfield Road intersection has been re-opened.  The Happ Road intersection is expected to be closed for three weeks and is tentatively set to re-open on Saturday, October 18.   Local traffic will be detoured west to Northfield Road.

Willow Road Work

September 19 to October 3, 2014

• Waukegan Road.  On Wednesday, September 24, Waukegan Road traffic will be switched to the Phase 3 configuration.  This is a split traffic pattern that will allow them to complete the center median work.  All lanes on Waukegan are anticipated to be reopened by the early October.
• Waukegan Road to Chapel Hill.  The final electrical, topsoil and sodding operations are underway.
• Chapel Hill to the River.  The pavement removal; water, sanitary, and storm sewer installation; and earthwork are all underway.  As the work progresses, the local streets on the south side of the corridor will have to be closed for short periods to install the utilities and construct the intersections.  Special detour alerts will be posted one week prior to any of these closures taking place.
• Bridge to the Edens.  On Monday, September 22, the traffic will be switched to the Phase II configuration placing all of the traffic on the north side of the right of way.  As soon as this is complete, they will begin constructing the south side of the bridge, pavement demolition, and utility installations.  At this point, the south intersection leg at Happ and Willow is tentatively planned to be closed on September 29^th for a three week period.  A special detour alert and map will be posted one week prior to the closure taking place.
• Edens Ramps.  The final electrical, signage, topsoil, pavement marking, and landscape work are underway.  These areas are scheduled to be reopened in early October.
